Do you like to make your own crochet dog toy or make some to donate to your local animal shelter? The Sleepy Moon Dog Toy is perfect for these endeavors. It’s big and cuddly and ideal for the larger dog that likes to carry their toys around. For the smaller dogs, it could easily be used as a pillow or for company when their human has to be away.
Disclaimer: I would not recommend this toy for a dog who is an extreme chewer.

Supplies Needed
Super Bulky #6 {I used Bernat Blanket Yarn}
Estimated yardage: 100 yds moon color; 20-30 yds hat color
US L (7mm) hook{I highly recommend Furls Streamlines}
Optional: small amount #4 black yarn for embroidered eye and mouth
Polyfil Stuffing
Large eye tapestry needle

MC=main color
CC= contrasting color
MR=magic ring
ch=chain
sl st=slip stitch
Rnd: round
hdc=half double crochet
sc=single crochet
Inc=Increase
Dec=Decrease
NOTES:
- Using the super bulky makes an extremely big toy. Substitute a smaller weight yarn and hook size for a smaller toy.
- This toy is recommended more for dogs who like to carry or cuddle their toys, not recommended for a heavy chewer.
- Your circle may start to get wavy as you increase. Once you fold in half and stuff, the wave will go away.
Pattern Instructions For Crochet Dog Toy
MOON:
Rnd 1: With moon color, using MR, 12 hdc in ring, pull to close [12]
Rnd 2: Inc each st around [24]
Rnd 3: hdc next, Inc next, around [36]
Rnd 4: hdc next 2, Inc next, around [48]
Rnd 5: hdc next 3, Inc next, around [60]
Rnd 6: hdc next 4, Inc next, around [72]
Rnd 7: hdc next 5, Inc next, around [84]
Rnd 8: hdc next 6, Inc next, around [96]
Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing. Fold circle in half. Using tapestry needle, sew together in back loops. Stuff firmly before sewing. Alternately, you could leave stuffing out and make a flat toy. Using black yarn, embroider a sleepy eye and mouth.
HAT:
Rnd 1: With MC, using MR, 6 hdc in ring, pull to close [6]
Rnd 2: Inc each st around [12]
Rnd 3: hdc next, Inc next, around [18]
Rnd 4: hdc each st around [18]
Rnd 5: hdc next 2, Inc next, around [24]
Rnd 6-8: hdc each st around, change to CC in last st of rnd 8 [24]
Rnd 9-10: hdc in 3rd loop of each st around [24] Fasten off. Weave end.
BALL FOR TOP OF HAT:
Rnd 1: With CC, using MR, 6 sc in ring, pull to close [6]
Rnd 2: Inc each st around [12]
Rnd 3: Dec each st around [6]
Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing. Stuff if desired and sew to top of hat. Place hat on moon and sew to secure if desired.
